GOOD LITTLE RUBBER DINOSAUR

I have no clue where this little rubber dinosaur came from, but he’s been with me since I was three or four. He was always one of my favorite toys even tho he didn’t come from any movie or TV show. He never had any buttons to push for a realistic dinosaur sounds. And he’s been frozen in the same pose for more than thirty years, so no 8-points of articulation. Boy was he a fun toy!

Seriously he was a great toy! I could stick my finger into his mouth and run around the house screaming in agony like he’s chewing my finger to the bone. He was a fun bath buddy because after filling him up with water he became a water squirter with just a simple squeeze. Anybody who dared to enter the bathroom would usually get dinosaur spit all over ‘em! Other fun activities were anthill stomping, footprints in clay, attacking plastic army men and scare girls at school.

For all these years he has never been packed away and he’s always been close by on a bookshelf or desk. He’s spent the past fourteen years sitting on my computer desk greeting me hello every morning when I turn the computer on. He sure has been a good little rubber dinosaur!

He probably hasn't been outside since the days of playing in the sandbox, so today was his day for some fresh air.

SUPER SERVICE STATION MAGAZINES

FLEA MARKET FRIDAYS #30

I'm not into gas or oil collectibles, but I picked up a bunch of 1960's Super Service Station mags the other day because they have some great ads. I like to mine old magazines for ad characters and these have a bunch.

So far I've only scanned a few ads and these are the ad characters I found from the 1963 issues.

If you want to see the full size ads that they came from click on any of these links to my flickr page.

FUNNY FACE DRINK-MIX CHARACTERS TO BE RESURRECTED

I almost spit out my Kool-Aid when I read some good news!

Thanks to this good news I might have a chance to spit out some Funny Face in the near future if Renegade Animation is able to sell a pilot featuring our old fruit flavored friends of Funny Face. That’s right according to Cartoon Brew Renegade has snagged the rights to the Funny Face characters who were popular during the 60's and 70's as a fruit flavored drink-mix made by Pillsbury.

Hopefully this will be picked up and become a popular weekly cartoon. Besides seeing the Funny Face gang in an animated series it would be very cool to see it come back as a drink-mix again. Heck, if it’s big-time popular maybe the characters will have their own cereal and Pez dispensers and ice cream bars and action figures and sneakers and bed sheets and. . . Ok, I’m getting ahead of myself, but all this would be very cool!

To wet your whistle for Funny Face check out these amazing Funny Face collections from Jim Rash - his flickr and his website. Also check out Dan Goodsell's collection at his website.

Here's some fun old commercials -

Thanks goes to Brandon and Dan for the heads up on this important breaking news!

We played host to Mr Toast during his stay in Missouri. Mr Toast is the crusted creation of artist Dan Goodsell and this lovable slab of bread has been on tour across the USA. You can see the rest of the photos at a sampler of things.

JIM MOONEY R.I.P.

The comic’s world lost another wonderful talent and this time it was Jim Mooney. An amazing artist that has drawn almost every DC and Marvel character since he started working during the golden age of comics. He is best known for his work on Supergirl, Dial H For Hero, Man-Thing and Spider-Man.

I really enjoyed his work inking Al Milgrom on Spectacular Spider-Man back in the 80's, especially during those Black Cat issues.

I had the pleasure of meeting gentleman Jim Mooney twice at two conventions. Once in the early 90's and again in 2005. The piece below is a commission that the first lady got for me back in 2002 and it’s one of my favorite pieces of artwork in my collection.
