KING KONG KONGFRONTATION SOUVENIR POLAROID

Thanks to Polaroid we have this souvenir photo from Universal Studios Florida attraction Kongfrontation. Here I am in Kong’s grasp with my girlfriend, who would later become the first lady of Neato Coolville. This was in 1992 and it was our first time together visiting the theme parks in Orlando. Of course we had a blast and since I’m a big King Kong fan I went nuts for this attraction, which is now gone. For five bucks you could have your photo taken in Kong’s hand for an instant souvenir in a nifty little folder.

Polaroid photo images are a one-of-a-kind memory like this one above. Hopefully people will be able to continue making one-of-a-kind memories with instant film and not just remembering instant film itself as a nostalgic memory.

  1. Epic photo NC! It's good to see the better half sporting the classic '80's hair!!

  2. you know, when you come out of those rides and you're thinking "Why am I gonna waste my money on that picture?" Somewhere down the line it really strikes a cord especially after the ride gets closed. If it's just an everyday basic rollercoaster it's not a big deal, but this was KONGFRONTATION! One of the best rides in Universal ever.

  3. Many moons ago, I worked at Universal Studios Florida. It was the summer they first opened, so it was pretty exciting. I worked in a shop right across the street from the Earthquake ride and down the street from Jaws, which was up and down so much we never knew what to tell the tourists. I remember riding Kongfrontation only once, and it wasn't all that exciting I'm afraid. My favorite ride was Hanna-Barbara. Ah, memories...

  4. Love it! (and how great that it documents a neat time of your relationship with the missus.)

Jay (above) said almost exactly what I was going to. Of course now it's even harder to shell it out for these things since it seems like they run about 15 bucks.

  5. Mike - Yes you gotta love 80's hair even if it was in the 90's.

Jay - Now we never pay for the photos but luckily since it was five bucks and King Kong it was a must buy. I'm so glad we did it.

Ernie - I'm sure that park was a lot of fun to work at. It seems most people either really loved Kong or hated it. I also loved the the H-B attraction. The film was a lot fun!

Kirk - Yeah, it really was a fun time. Her family invited me to tag along and boy we really had a fun time. It was my first time to Florida and to visit all the theme parks.
