This magazine ad is from 1986 promoting the all new colorized version of George A. Romero's classic horror movie The Night of the Living Dead. Back when I worked at a video store, I remember that we rented the heck out of this version. Of course I did my best to persuade people to rent the original black and white version, but everyone wanted to see what it looked like to eat human flesh in color. Even though this movie should be watched only in black and white I do like this magazine ad.
I forgot about the colorized version. You're right. It was pretty wretched! Hope you're feeling better NC!!
ReplyDeletei have that colorized version on vhs tape. i watched it in color once and then just started turning the color down to make it b&w. the color just doesn't work! i also have the colorized vhs of "its a wonderful life" and always had to turn off the color on it too.
ReplyDeleteWas the guy's hair really yellow? He looks like a damn Ken doll!

ReplyDeleteYikes a Zombie Ken doll!! Stephen your comment cracked me up! I've never seen the colorized version.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mike and yes I think I might live. I thought I was going to have to call you up and ask you to take my place as Mayor for a few days.
Now that you mention it, I do remember the brouhaha over colorizing this particular movie.
ReplyDeleteIn general, of course, the debate was everywhere.
Does anybody colorize anything anymore? I haven't even heard of colorizing in years.
Yes, colorizing is still going on. They've improved it and at least most of the movies have both versions the original b/w and the new colorized version on the same DVD. Just released is the Ray Harryhausen classic 20 Million Miles To Earth now in color. Also, the first seasons of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeanie are colorized.
ReplyDeleteI never saw the colourized zersion. I'm curious though... The poster is really nice.
