Marshmallows seem to be the perfect candy for Halloween. They're already kinda shaped like a puffy ghost and we like to melt 'em with fire and squish 'em between chocolate bars and graham crackers. But for some reason they just haven't been accepted as a go to Halloween candy. Easter seems to be a better fit. Though the good folks over at Campfire did release Ghoster Roasters back in 2015.
They're beloved mascot Campy dressed up as Dracula to spook up some sales and it certainly worked on me. I purchased a bag, made s'mores and enjoyed a fun treat.
I even managed to snap a pic of them in the wild at my local supermarket.
The best part of the packaging is Campy trying to scare us from behind the UPC symbol. I love when brands go the extra mile and incorporate the UPC into the packaging design.
Later in the countdown Campfire will be making another appearance and you'll be asking yourself, "Who you gonna call?"
I like toasted marshmallows, but i've never gotten into them much for s'mores. too messy. maybe this is why they don't take off more as a treat? that being said, i'm old enough to remember getting homemade rice krispy treats in my halloween candy bags from random neighbors. those are a great use of marshmallows -- especially with browned butter and a sprinkling of flakey salt on the top. YUM
ReplyDeleteYou're making me crave some rice krispy treats!
DeleteI've never been a big fan of marshmallows, though I enjoyed roasting them over campfires in my youth, I just wasn't particularly fond of eating them beyond maybe one. I do like Rice Krispy Treats though, so I could have used them in those. I'm glad they stuck with a regular marshmallow and didn't try to do "candy corn" or "pumpkin spice" flavored.
ReplyDeleteSo many marshmallows now are flavored and most of the time the flavors are kinda yuck.
