1940'S CHEERIOATS NEWSPAPER ADS

Good thing Big G decided to shorten Cheerioats down to Cheerios in 1945 since Cheerioats sounds like something you would feed a horse! According to the website Topher's Breakfast Cereal Character Guide the genius who renamed the classic cereal was Fred T. Leighty. Two early Cheerios mascots were Cheeri O’Leary created in 1942 and Joe Idea who started showing up on boxes and ads in 1944 are featured in these newspaper ads and snack pack box from the 1940's.
