UNTAMED HIGHWAY

Have you ever traveled on an untamed highway before? I took that trip when I read Noah Snodgrass and Shawn Dickinson’s comic book Untamed Highway and let me tell you this highway has lots of curves!

Untamed Highway finds it’s inspiration from all the cool roadside stuff from those stylin’ mid-century days told thru pictures and words underground style. The boys have covered it all with fez finks, gorilla masked meanies, vivacious vixens, secret societies, alligator boys, freaky freaks, shrunken heads a tiki or two and b-movie baddies!

So go put on your Fez, jump in your hot rod and take off on a trip you’ll never forget on the Untamed Highway!

TIKI MODERN

Once again Sven Kirsten has unearthed more mid-century tiki goodness with his new book Tiki Modern published by Taschen. Besides all the terrific tiki artwork and photos the book is a fitting tribute to the Witco Company, one of the leading manufactures of tiki decor. Tiki Modern also looks at the modern tiki craze of today.

Yes this book is a heavy one and I mean actual weight and not the beatnik slang for seriousness. Besides your eyes getting a workout at all the wonderful visuals you might just burn a few calories and build those muscles too!

TIKI ROAD TRIP 2ND EDITION

Even if you have the first edition of Tiki Road Trip I suggest that you upgrade to the second edition. Tiki guru and author James Tietelbaum has packed it with more tiki tidbits with new entries of extinct tiki places, current tiki establishments and a new section on international tiki. So this second edition is two times more tiki fun!

STAX 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION CD SET

One of my favorite albums-cds-downloads or whatever you wanna call them these days has been the Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration!

Oh man, I’ve been enjoying this collection of 50 songs that Stax released from 1960 to 1975 on this two disc boxed set. When I listen to these tunes they make my work day go easy and fast and that “Stax Sound” really gets inside you! My favorite song of all time is on this album, Green Onions by Booker T. & The Mgs. Everything is in here by great artists like Otis Redding, Mar-Keys, Sam & Dave, The Bar-Kays, Johnnie Taylor, Issac Hayes, The Staple Singers, The Dramatics and many more.

All I can say it’s a smooth groove super soul funky fantastic good time when you’re listening to Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration! I picked my copy up at Best Buy, but I noticed Amazon has it on the cheap for just $15 bucks!

You might also want to pick up the very cool documentary Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story on DVD.

PRINGLES BAKED WHEAT STIX

Pringles is again leaving the tube behind and this time they’re leaving the chip behind too! Soon that floating mustached head will be seen on boxes of Pringles Baked Wheat Stix, which is a thin crispy cracker stick packed with flavor.

You’ll be able to choose from Vanilla, Crunchy Wheat, Pizza and Honey Butter and at the moment Pringles Stix can only be found in a handful of states. I was lucky enough to try the vanilla and the honey butter flavors even tho they’re not available in my neck of the woods. A generous friend brought some up from Tennessee and gave out some samples. Both were very good and I was amazed how long the flavors lasted, especially the vanilla.

The vanilla sticks would be nice with a bowl of ice cream or maybe as a swizzle in hot chocolate. As good as the vanilla is, I like the honey butter better and I bet this flavor would go well with a salad, soup or a sub sandwich. I can’t wait to try the Pizza!

The nice thing is that these little sticks are low in calories and will be a great side item or just fun snacks to ease your hungry tummy. If you have a chance, be sure and buy a bunch of boxes and snack away.

TIKIRANCH PRINTING

If you need any flyers, postcards or business cards printed up then you need to giddy-up to the ranch, the Tikiranch that is. Last October I needed some postcards printed up with one of my designs and Tikiranch came to the rescue and did a super swell job on ‘em. The quality of the cards is excellent and the colors crisp and clean.

I’m very pleased with the cards and I know whenever I need anything printed I’ll just head to Tikiranch Printing and if you need something printed you should do the same!

Also, check out the fun and popular Tikiranch blog where you’ll see some amazing vintage advertising and right now the ranch is decked out for Christmas.

BLOOPER BONANZA 1960'S DVD

Strolling thru the Target store the other day I noticed a bin of $1.00 DVDs and found Blooper Bonanza 1960's. This DVD is a must buy for just a buck since it has the classic Star Trek bloopers along with bloopers from Laugh-In and McHale’s Navy.

I’m sure most people have seen the Star Trek bloopers at various Trek and comic conventions or even own some old bootleg VHS tapes with ‘em. But the real gem on this DVD are the Laugh-In bloopers. I’d only seen a few clips and not the whole thing and folks let me tell you they’re hilarious all 20 minutes worth. The McHale’s Navy bloopers has a few chuckles, but nothing great.

So you better hurry up and visit your local Target before they sell out. They’re kept in their Dollar Store section up front.
