THE HAUNTED MANSION DISNEYLAND RECORD & BOOK

FLEA MARKET FRIDAYS #18

The First Lady actually found this at a flea market when she was flipping thru a big box of kid's records back in June. I was going to hold it back for my all Halloween month in October, but since this week turned into a Disneyland week, I think it's perfect for today's FM Friday! Here's some scans from the book.

Do you have a player to play this on NC? I don't remember. Great find. The images are fantastic. In fact, I'm wearing my HM 35th anniversay shirt as I'm typing this. You know how people have their dream houses? Well, this and Monsanto's House Of The Future are mine.

I forgot to say I bet Mrs. NC was thrilled to death to be at a flea market with you. Poor girl! At least she found something cool.

Luckily it was a nice one, so she didn't care too much. It always helps when she finds something on her own.

It's a fun record with Ron Howard in the leading role. If you ever turn this into an mp3, please let me know.

I had this record as a kid... no idea it was Ron Howard. The B-Side used to totally freak me out as it was just sound effects with a really cool intro which I can remember word for word to this day- "You are a bold adventurer, afraid of nothing. High on the hilltop near your home there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted but you don't believe such myths...' etc. I got goosebumps typing this just now.

I have the B-Side in mp3 format if anyone wants it, email in profile.

There were two Haunted Mansion records, a 12" Lp with Thurl Ravenscroft, Ron Howard, and Robie Lester and this 7" "See, Hear, Read" record and booklet narrated by Robie Lester. Although some music and sound effects are the same they're completely different records.

This was our favorite LP as kids! "Welcome foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion. I am your host. Your Ghost host, that is. Kindly step this way. There's no turning back now. You will not be harmed...but you will not be released until you have taken a tour of our home. We have so few visitors. Live ones...that is!!!"

Yep, I had this record too... but I had the original release, with purple label and silver type. The images you have posted here from the booklet are fascinating, b/c they are highly edited from my original printing. The faces have been revised from being thoroughly scary and horrifying, to these Hanna-Barbarra looking dopey vacant smiling ones you show. I spent hours engrossed in the album and booklet, and it was shockingly scary, grotesque really. I must have been about 6 or 7 and it was awesome. This is just schlocky looking!!! If you ever see the original, you'll understand! In the spirit of animation though, they have only changed key elements of the faces and hands, to look more happy and babyish, so those must have been rendered on an overlay layer on the background. I'd also love to get the MP3 for my nephews, of the long version that came with the booklet. I have no idea where my original copy is, sadly.

This was my absolute favorite when I was a kid, and I haven't been able to find it since. I would KILL OR DIE for a copy of this. Would you be willing to sell yours?

Please email me at highfemme 78 at yahoo dot com !

I just found two copies on ebay! I remember, vividly, turning off the lights to let myself become absorbed by this album. And the pictures were fantastic! Thanks for posting.
