I just picked up this Earl Nightingale record album called a great way to live. . . at the thrift store. Checkout those happy teenagers cruising in their convertible having a fun and carefree time. When you flip the album over. . .
you get a shock, as all the fun living teenagers are dead from a gruesome car wreck.
I really need to invest in a record player so I can find out how these hip kids bought the farm. My guess is that they were paying too much attention to the guitar playing kid in the back or maybe the gal with the hat had some Old Crow tucked away in that picnic basket.
Here's a couple of Earl Nightingale videos from his 1970 TV show Our Changing World. The first one is about Edgar Allen Poe.

THE ELECTROLUX SPY WHO LOVED ME
FLEA MARKET FRIDAYS #28
Since I'm a sucker for cool graphics and artwork, I ended up buying an old bag full of old vacuum cleaner bags. You might be saying to yourself, "A bag full of old bags, how lame is that?" Well yes, that sounds kind of lame, but check out the fun housewife spy art on this Electrolux filter bag from the 1960's.
Ah, this artist was cashing in on the popular spy craze that was sweeping (or maybe I should say vacuuming) the nation. Just think if there was never a James Bond, Napoleon Solo, Maxwell Smart or Secret Squirrel then you would be looking at a boring vacuum bag with artwork of a plain and regular housewife. Now that would be lame!

1940'S CHEERIOATS NEWSPAPER ADS
Good thing Big G decided to shorten Cheerioats down to Cheerios in 1945 since Cheerioats sounds like something you would feed a horse! According to the website Topher's Breakfast Cereal Character Guide the genius who renamed the classic cereal was Fred T. Leighty. Two early Cheerios mascots were Cheeri O’Leary created in 1942 and Joe Idea who started showing up on boxes and ads in 1944 are featured in these newspaper ads and snack pack box from the 1940's.

MONSTER MOP
At the local Save-A-Lot I noticed these mops that have a cool dirt monster on the package. Since it was only a buck I had to buy it just for the package.

FOREVER RETRO MAGAZINE
Hey gang! Did you hear the news about the new mag called Forever Retro? If you haven’t, go visit the Forever Retro Magazine website and check it out! This magazine celebrates two of my favorite decades, the groovy 70's and the 8-bit 80's and according to the website its chocked full of fun fuzzy memories!
You can jump on at the ground level as the mag is launching this month. You'll find interviews with Dave Thomas of Bob & Doug McKenzie fame and MacDonald Hall author Gordon Korman. Plus, articles on Classic Arcade games, Transformers, Care Bears, Ghost Busters and a bunch more. Heck, you’ll even find an article from yours truly sandwiched somewhere between the covers of Forever Retro.

FARMER JACK'S COFFEE CAN
FLEA MARKET FRIDAYS #26
I found this 1960's Farmer Jack's Coffee can just a few days before Christmas.
It reminded me that I have a vinyl bank of good old Farmer Jack from 1986.
You can read the story about Farmer Jack Supermarkets on Wikipedia.
