NEATO COOLVILLE EXPANDS - NEW WEBSITE, TWITTER & FACEBOOK

News flash - Neato Coolville is expanding! Check out the new twitter and facebook page!

To help celebrate, neatocoolville.com just got a new facelift. Before, it was nothing more than a simple entry page for the blog. The website is still an entry page, but now with all the links to find your way into Neato Coolville.

A quick run down of the different Neato Coolville sites -

Twitter - Now you’ll be able to read about the imaginary town that lives inside my head. Not your normal twitter page - sort of a comic strip without the artwork. Tomorrow we start everything off with reports from a big parade as the town celebrates being on twitter. The parade starts at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday August 3rd.

Facebook - Neato Readers who are facebook users can keep up on blog posts and other Neato Coolville related news. Besides the blog links, we’ll have some exclusive facebook content. There will be movie quotes every Monday and an album of fun facebook icons that you can use for a new profile pic. New icons are added all the time. Plus a lot more facebook surprises along the way.

Flickr - Later this year I should hit 5000 images and I’ve recently tried to tidy up with better organized sets and newly added tags. Flickr is always a work in progress.

Blog - The blog will remain the same with the random posts of stuff that I find cool enough to blab about. I have some week long events planned and again I’ll be participating in the month long Halloween Countdown this October.

Weird Hollow - Speaking of Halloween, Weird Hollow will also be part of the countdown with the help of my pal Vlad. We’re planning some ghoulish fun this fall. More Vlad videos, the thrid annual monster head races and whatever else our "Abbey Normal" brains can think of.

So jump on board and ride the Neato train of websites! ~~Choo-choo~~ Who knows where it will end up?

Thanks to everyone who visits, follows, links, likes, comments and lurks! I hope this new expansion will add to the fun.

Also, thanks to the brother of the mayor, for uploading and setting up the new website! Thanks bro!

THE MAYOR IS BACK IN TOWN

Whew, that was a close one, as I see that good old Lee Roy the mailman was very close to uploading his belly button lent collection. Looks like I showed up in the nick of time!

Really, I never left town. A crazy thing - I was working in the Neato Coolville archives where I accidently boxed myself in a corner with storage tubs. I was trapped for the whole month of May in my self-made prison of tubs filled with leftover junk from the 20th century. It was quite harrowing, but I managed to survive by eating stale Cap’n Crunch from 1979 and drinking some 1960's Mountain Dew. (Amazing, it still tickles your innards after all these years!)

Good thing I had my trusty Swiss Army Knife with the built in bottle opener or they might’ve found a cobwebbed skeleton with an unopened bottle clinched in its hand.

Really, I needed the break and I amused myself by reading old TV Guides and Jughead comics until I was rescued by Myrtle Mayfair, Neato Coolville’s very own busy body. Luckily, she wandered in the archives in search of Mr. Mippy, her pet hamster. She didn’t find Mr. Mippy, but she did find me! I think she was disappointed that I wasn’t Mr. Mippy.

Now that I’m back, you’ll be seeing some Neato blog posts starting tomorrow. Not sure if I’ll be doing the daily post grind, but new posts are just around the corner. Oh, if you see Mr. Mippy, tell him to come back home pronto. Myrtle is missing Mr. Mippy something fierce.

WHERE’S THE MAYOR OF NEATO COOLVILLE?

Hey there folks! Let me introduce myself - my name is Lee Roy and I’m the mailman here in Neato Coolville. First, let me say thanks to all the loyal Neato Readers out there that have been sending in mail asking what has happened to this here blog.

All of us town folk believe that the Mayor has fallen off the face of the earth! Really, we can’t find the guy! He hasn’t been in Pearly’s Pumpkin Pie Shoppe for weeks and he’s missed important meetings at the Platypus Lodge. Usually on his lunch hour he can be seen hanging out at the Cosmic Clown Arcade. We even checked with Timothy Grimm the gravedigger at the Weird Hollow Cemetery. We were glad to hear that the gravedigger hasn’t buried anyone all month.

We’ve searched every little nook and cranny of our beloved town and the Mayor is nowhere to be found.

The good news is that we did find our old revolutionary war cannon that’s been missing since 1976. We found it under a giant pile of polyester pants and leisure suits inside the Minute Man Dry Cleaners over on Bicentennial Blvd.

We’ll keep searching and when we find him we’ll put him back to work on new blog posts. Until then, I might just have to show off my collection of belly button lent. I’m proud to say I’ve been saving my belly button lent since the third grade!

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Lee Roy
Mailman of Neato Coolville

THE MAYOR IS BACK IN TOWN

Hi ya kids! Did you miss me? Sorry for the lack of posts, but I was too busy sorting thru my collection of moist towelletts and watching old reruns of Flipper.

I guess it’s time I get back to doing regular Mayor duties and take care of this kooky little town that I rule, uh. . . take care of. The first order of business was to spruce up the place and that’s just what I did. I added a spiffy new banner and cluttered up the sidebar with a bunch of stuff. Yay for more stuff!!!

The second order of business was to create another blog for the freaky folks that live on Weird Hollow - a spooky street at the edge of town.

To my chagrin I took the time and slapped one together. If you dare to visit - just click on the odd man with the tiny purple hat in the sidebar. I did park the past two Halloween countdowns over there and Weird Hollow will be the new home for future Halloween countdowns.

I hope the folks who live on Pirate Alley won’t expect me to create a special blog for their street. I just can’t do that for every street in Neato Coolville. I just don’t have the time.

Be sure to tune in this Monday as I have some new posts planned for the week and hopefully beyond. Maybe I’ll get organized and keep a better schedule. Yeah, right - and maybe they’ll make a sequel to the movie Tron.

A big thanks to everyone who stops by and visits this little imaginary town. All the imaginary people applaud you and that includes me. I wonder if I’m imaginary?

Some banners that I made up that didn't make the cut. The first one was a bit too much and the billboard on the second one is kind of boring. I like the idea of a billboard, so maybe I'll use it for something else.

MONSTER MOTEL BUSINESS CARD

For fun I made up this business card for the Monster Motel. (Click on the card for a closer look)

Since most business cards use swiped or borrowed artwork, I decided to do the same. I used the monster from the classic 48" Talking Monster from Outer Space comic book ad.

There’s a reason I used those specific numbers for the address. Can anyone guess why? I'm sure most any monster fan will know!

INTRODUCING MONSTER MOTEL

I decided to play Dr. Frankenstein and bring three of my monster drawings to life in the form of these simple animation shorts.

THE STORY OF FRANKEN CLAUS

Here is a rare Gruffman’s souvenir photo folder with Santa.

Now here’s the story behind this photo and why Frankenstein's Monster is playing Santa.

For years Neato Coolville resident Stanley Lunder played Santa Claus at Gruffman’s Department store delighting children every year during Christmas. One year, poor Stanley agreed to play the Frankenstein’s Monster during a Halloween promotion at Gruffman’s and he was a big hit and brought in big crowds for the department store.

The sad and horrific thing was that he had a terrible reaction to his monster make-up and it permanently stuck to his face and hands. Gruffman’s sent him all over the country to some of the best doctors to try and remove the make-up, but for some unknown reason he was to wear his monster make-up for the rest of his life.

When Christmas rolled around Stanley actually tried to play Santa Claus, but unfortunately this only lasted a week or two as he kept scaring the children. Gruffman’s saw a huge drop in customers and poor Stanley Lunder was soon out of work.

What was a newly man made monster supposed to do? Well this does have a happy ending as Stanley Lunder learned to live with his new face and became successful traveling around the country to sideshows, fairs, movie theaters and Halloween events. He would eventually return to his hometown of Neato Coolville and open the very successful wax museum appropriately named Dr. Frankenstein’s Wax Museum.

AHOY! IT'S TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY

As I was out for my morning stroll thru the streets of Neato Coolville, I noticed that everyone was talking like a pirate. I thought to myself that this was a little odd especially since I was walking down Main Street. Now if I had been walking down Pirate Alley I wouldn’t have thought anything of it as most of the real pirates live on Pirate Alley.

Anyway, I asked a nice chap and in a gruff voice he said, “Ahoy me hearty Mayor, didn’t ye know it was talk like a pirate day?” I had completely forgotten today was Talk Like a Pirate Day! So, right now let me yell out a loud Arrgh, “ARRRGHHHH.” Hey that felt good. Now it’s your turn to yell out a loud and hardy Arrgh. Don’t worry I’ll wait. . .

Didn’t that feel good? Now you’re in the right frame of mind to view a few pirate things that I found in the archives. I wish all ye landlubbers a merry old time this Talk Like a Pirate Day!
